It’s reported that a PhD of New York Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute developed a new manufacturing LED – to change the design of the diode surface. The method is creating thousands of tiny star-shaped pillars on the surface, these stars are specially designed by 5nm layer; it aims to help disseminate the light.

The PhD named this nano-structured gradient index (GRIN) structure. New method can generate more light, reducing the impact on the environment and the overall cost. The doctor said compared with traditional light, LED lamp has advantages like light weight, high efficiency, green and recyclable, but the actual efficiency is not high as its theoretical value, if people can increase the light output, the light efficiency will be improved effectively.
